Merritt Parkway Conservancy website design

Parkway preservation, history, and advocacy in one public resource.

A mission-led website for the nonprofit protecting the Merritt Parkway’s landscape, bridges, history, and future as a National Scenic Byway.

Project brief & approach

Connect the Parkway’s history with its continuing care.

The Merritt Parkway Conservancy protects the Parkway’s landscape, bridges, history, and future. Its website needed to make that broad preservation mission understandable to visitors arriving with different interests: learning about the road, following a current project, understanding advocacy, or supporting the organization.

The content architecture gives history, current projects, design and planning, advocacy, and news their own routes. That organization connects the Parkway as a historic landscape with the work involved in caring for it today. Visitors can start with the subject that brought them to the site and continue into related material.

The gallery includes Parkway History, Current Projects, Design and Planning, Conservancy News, Parkway Advocacy, and the Safe Summer exhibition. These sections show the range of content the design needs to accommodate, from lasting background information to material tied to a particular project or program.

Bridge and landscape imagery gives the mission a recognizable physical context. Clear headings and page relationships keep those visual details connected to educational content, organizational information, and opportunities to participate.

What the work delivered: a public nonprofit resource bringing preservation, education, news, and support pathways into a connected website. Donors and other visitors can move from understanding the place to learning about the organization’s role and ways to contribute.

The documented work combines nonprofit positioning, historical storytelling, content architecture, and donation pathways. It offers an example for organizations whose websites must introduce a mission while also supporting a substantial body of public information.
